Grapevine does not need a northern-style blowout every November. It does need a plan before a hard freeze. The failures we see in January are split backflows, cracked valve bodies, and clocks that tried to water on a night the city had already told people to stop.
What we shut down
The controller is set so it will not call a zone during a freeze. The backflow is drained and covered when the forecast calls for a hard freeze. Above-ground pipe on the side of a limestone or brick house is the piece that splits. Heads and buried laterals usually survive a short North Texas freeze if they are not holding pressure against a closed, ice-filled backflow.
We do not promise a compressor visit as the default. If your system has a history of freeze breaks, or the backflow sits fully exposed on a north wall, say so and we will blow the lines. A mild week in December is not that visit.
After the freeze
Startup is a separate trip. Open the backflow slowly yourself only if you are sure the pipes were drained. If you hear water in the wall or see a new wet spot, leave it shut and call.
(469) 294-8444. If a freeze watch is already posted, call early. The exposed backflows get scheduled first.
